Equine medical centre

The veterinary medicine teachers at the Academy under the direction of Prof Jörg Auer and Dr Mike Weishaupt, as well as veterinarians from the Free University of Berlin, are building an equine veterinary medical centre within the AKA.

Special emphasis will be placed on the diagnosis and treatment of functional and structural orthopaedic disease, as well as meeting the needs of the different teaching modules such as sports medicine.

In order to work and train horses effectively, today's horse trainer requires basic veterinary knowledge to help him/her assess and localise behaviour that appears as a result of physical deficits.

The use of modern imaging diagnostics (ultrasound, endoscopies, x-ray, computer tomography) helps us give students a better, practical knowledge of the topic and helps them develop a better understanding of a horse's physical condition. Studying the organic aspects of behavioural problems greatly supports therapeutic work with the horse in this crucial field.
